How to be a fan at a Blastball or T-ball game:
FHTBA is committed to providing our players and coaches a safe and secure environment. We will not tolerate any demeaning or abusive behaviour, whether verbal or otherwise, from spectators at the ballpark.
As adults, we have a responsibility to protect young people from abusive and damaging behaviour. We must offer them a safe space to develop their skills and build their self-confidence.
Be Good or Be Gone Policy:
The city of Kitchener has established a Behaviour Management Policy (June 1999) to promote appropriate behaviour and activities in all Parks and Recreation facilities. Behaviour and activities that obstruct or hinder the rights of others to use and enjoy these facilities are considered unacceptable and are prohibited.
Inappropriate Behaviour at a Forest Hill T-Ball Game Includes:
- Causing a disturbance, whether through words or actions.
- Shouting disrespectful, offensive, or abusive comments at players, coaches, or other parents.
- Intimidating or threatening players, coaches, or fellow parents.
- Using profanity or obscene language toward players, coaches, or other parents.
- Littering or creating unsanitary conditions.
Enforcement Steps:
1. An FHTBA Official (either a member of the board or a coach of the teams involved) will inform the offending party that their behaviour is unacceptable and will request that they cease such behaviour.
2. If the party does not stop the unacceptable behaviour, they will be asked to leave the field.
3. Should the party refuse to leave, the official will contact the police.
Consequences:
Any individual who engages in inappropriate behaviour or activities as outlined in ARTICLE III, Sections ii, iii, and iv may be removed from the field immediately and banned from returning to any program or event for a specified duration.
Coaches are responsible for the behaviour of the spectators affiliated with their respective teams.
Tips for parents:
1. Ensure that your child is committed to the team.
2. If your child cannot attend a game, please email the coach in advance.
3. Ensure your child is dressed appropriately in their FHTBA hat, shirt, and long pants.
4. Arrive at the park before game time, as instructed by your coach. This will allow sufficient warm-up time and ensure that games start on time.
5. Stay and watch the game.
6. Be a supportive spectator by only encouraging comments towards the players. Avoid ridiculing young players who make mistakes.
7. If you have any concerns, discuss them with your coach after the game.
8. Ensure your child stays on the bench and does not go to the spectator area.
9. Take a moment to thank the coaching staff for their dedication and the many volunteer hours they invest in running the team.
